This was my little project for the fall.  I’ve been wanting to do a stylized wedding shoot for a few years, and finally this year I was able to pull it all together.  My stunning cousin Johanna was my model, she brought along her boyfriend Jake.  I borrowed a friend’s fall-tastic backyard, mom and I styled the shoot, and my very talented sister did hair and makeup.  Dress is from The Bridal Gallery on 44th Street.  Jake’s suit is from Banana Republic.  I made the bouquet and boutonniere.  The day started with a steady drizzle, I thought we would have to scrap the whole thing.  But the rain stopped and off we went.  Everything turned out beautiful!  Thanks to everyone for all their help!

I had the pleasure of shooting a very special day for Sarah and Blake on Saturday.  I’ve been working with this family now for the past 2 years with various members of their families for pictures.  Much love to you Sarah and Blake.  May you be blessed as you begin your lives together!

I have been a very bad blogger this summer, with all the weddings I’ve had and vacations, it’s hard to keep up.  I wanted to share just a few shots from some of my favorite photo shoots this summer.  Enjoy!

I have been looking forward to this wedding for a long time. I have known Ashley and her family for over 5 years now, her little brother and my son are best friends. Our families also go to the same church, so we see each other every week. So when she came to me over a year ago and asked me to be part of their special day, I was beyond excited! Everything went so well, as a photographer I couldn’t have asked for more. I pray a lifetime of blessings on you Mike and Ashley. God bless you both as you begin your lives together!

I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to celebrate Amy & Mike’s wedding last Saturday. The weather was a photographer’s dream and the location was beautiful. With family from all over Michigan, they decided to celebrate the day somewhere in the middle. They chose Cadillac, having their reception at the beautiful Caberfae Ski Resort. The colors were awesome and love was in the air. I hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon in Jamaica!  And may God bless you both as you begin your lives together!

It was such a beautiful day for a wedding this past Saturday. And I was lucky enough to share it with two awesome families. Sarah and Justin, I’m so glad I was able to work with you and pray for blessings in your marriage as you become a family. Thanks again for a special day! Thought I’d post just a couple of pics from the wedding Saturday night.  These are some of my personal pics from the night, me and my good buddies.  Mandy and I grew up right down the street from each other and played together almost every day.  Mandy’s sister Erin and my sister Sara were also good friends and played together all the time.  Mandy, Jason (Erin’s husband) and I all graduated together and have known each other a long time.  I love it when I actually know the family at the weddings I shoot.  Makes for such a great day!  The actual wedding day post will come later this week!

Brandon and Sam met on the co-ed bowling team at Grand Valley. Some of you will remember the engagement pictures we did at the bowling alley last fall, so much fun! Their wedding day turned out to be a beautiful fall day, a great day for their outdoor wedding at Centennial Country Club in Grand Rapids. Thank you both so much for including me in your special day. I have a lot of people ask me what my “style” is for wedding photography.  I always hate to answer this question, because I don’t know that I have a particular “style”.  But when I pulled pictures for this post, I noticed a lot of similarities in my shooting style.  I often tell people that I’m not an old fashioned traditional photographer.  I like to try new poses and step out of the box as often as I can, but living in West Michigan I find that most of my brides and grooms want a mix of fun, new and traditional.  I don’t have a lot of requests for a complete photojournalism look, but I do like to document the day.  And almost all of my family shots are very traditional.  Following are what I would call traditional wedding portraits.  I love the clean, crisp look to these pictures.  Enjoy!
