Family Session Fun

I had a great family session earlier this week on Monday with a fabulous family from my church.  Mom asked if we could do it right in their backyard because it is so pretty this time of year, and of course I said yes.  I love shooting at a person’s home, it makes the pictures so much more personal and everyone in the family is usually much more comfortable.  The two girls remind me of me and my sister when we were younger, they were so much fun to take pictures of.  Dad has a new job where he doesn’t get to see his family for several days at a time, so Mom wanted new family pics on the walls so the girls would have constant reminders of Dad and not miss him as much.  Thanks again for letting me and my boys come over to play and take pictures.  These are some of my favorite family pis I’ve ever done!

Dodging the Rain For A Family Session

Some of you may recognize this couple from their wedding I was able to shoot almost 18 months ago. They were back in town for a week and asked me to do some updated family pictures with their precious four month old son. What a sweet little guy!  It was raining almost all morning, but we managed to find a few minutes to squeeze in some pictures between the rain drops.  Look at this precious little boy!

New Family Pictures for the Wall

Here are my choices for the family picture wall at my mom’s house.  We last did family pictures about two years ago, so it was time to update.  My mom has a wall where she showcases our coordinating family pictures.  The last time we did this, we did one big family picture with all of us.  This year, because of the ages of our kids, it was easier to do each family separately and do more of a collage look.  Sometime, when we get all our kids together, they act up and get wild, not allowing for a very productive photo session.  I did my own family pics last week and I was able to do my sister’s family yesterday.  We were hoping to get a picture of my sister’s two kids together, but it just did not happen.  The baby is a little too new, and we were a little nervous having big sister hold him on the cement.  Now, I just have to get my mom and dad out to this location and update their shots.  But here are my picks for mom’s wall.

My Family

Every year I dread doing my own family pictures.  Especially trying to get a picture of the boys for the Christmas card.  But this morning I woke up with nothing planned for the entire day.  And for those of you that know me, that is really saying something.  Heaven forbid we just stay home and relax.  So I dug through everyone’s closets and came up with somewhat matching clothes, we all got dressed and were out the door before 9:30am for family pics.  We headed downtown Grand Rapids to one of my favorite little spots.  I also grabbed my tripod.  Everyone was so well behaved (I’m sure the bribe of a trip to Target for toys afterward helped some) and I feel like I got a ton of fun shots.  I already have my Christmas card designed and waiting to be printed at the lab 🙂

Cottage Life

As I mentioned in my last post, my parents rent the same cottage every year in August for a week.  We all go up as one big, extended family (Papa, Oma, Beca, Sara, all the kids and hubbies when they can get out of work) and love each other all week.  My parents have been doing this for seven years now and I love this week.  Every year my boys and I look forward to it.  I tend to take lots of pictures all week, and this year was no exception.  I’ve also realized that my twins like to just wear their underwear all week.  I came home to one whole load of underwear in the laundry, and that’s all.  They swam in them, slept in them and played in them.  Good enough for me.  We spend a lot of time kayaking, a lot of time swimming and a lot of time giving kisses.  And the week would not be complete without watching all the Tiger baseball games!  These are a few of my favorites from the week.
